Screen Reader First

Open Door Design follows a Screen Reader First philosophy.

Before asking how something looks, we ask how it works for someone who cannot see the screen.

Can it be understood? Can it be navigated? Can it be completed independently? Can it be completed efficiently?

These questions guide the way we build. When an experience works well for screen reader and keyboard users, it often becomes clearer, simpler, and more usable for everyone.

WCAG 2.2 AA and Real-World Usability

Open Door Design uses WCAG 2.2 AA as a primary benchmark for accessibility work.

WCAG provides an important framework, but true accessibility goes beyond passing automated checks or meeting technical requirements on paper.

Real accessibility is measured by whether real people can complete real tasks using the assistive technology, devices, browsers, and workflows they rely on every day.

That is why manual testing, keyboard evaluation, screen reader testing, and usability review are essential parts of our process.
