SR Document Remediation Tool

Focus: PDF accessibility, tagged document workflows, forms, graphics, and screen reader review.

SR Document Remediation Tool is a screen reader-focused PDF accessibility review and remediation concept. It is designed to support workflows involving tagged documents, graphics, forms, accessibility roles, and review decisions.

The project demonstrates accessibility engineering by addressing a common barrier: PDF remediation workflows are often visual, complex, and difficult to use efficiently with assistive technology.

Key accessibility concepts include keyboard usability, clear section order, role selection, form detection, graphics review, alternate text support, and screen reader-friendly status feedback.

Open Door Accessible Assistant

Focus: plain-language accessibility goals, automated workflow selection, media and document support, and technical complexity handled behind the scenes.

The project began as the Media Workflow Assistant, focused on captioning, transcription, audio description, compression, and AI preparation. As development progressed, the workflow engine proved useful for accessibility tasks far beyond media, leading to its new name: Open Door Accessible Assistant.

The assistant is not close to its full potential. It is being built in stages, and additional capabilities will be exposed to visitors as they become functional enough to use and evaluate. Its long-term direction includes media accessibility, document remediation, website evaluation, EPUB accessibility, WCAG support, and other goal-oriented workflows.

AccessibleAudioStudio

Focus: professional browser and Windows audio recording designed from the ground up for keyboard and screen reader users.

AccessibleAudioStudio provides a Screen Reader First workflow for choosing a microphone, recording, pausing, reviewing, saving, organizing, downloading, and deleting audio without requiring visual interaction.

Status: Version 1.0 available online and as an installable Windows application

AccessibleAudioStudio Pro

AccessibleAudioStudio Pro is now in active development and Windows testing. The editor is being built around a first-class playhead and keyboard-first editing workflows, including Audition, Play and Land, fine and audible scrubbing, marks, selections, copy and paste editing, native application menus, multiple editor windows, and unsaved-change protection.

Status: Active development and testing

Pro is not yet a public release. Multi-file editing, Primary Editor behavior, and other professional editing workflows continue to be refined through testing.

AccessibleScreenCapture

Focus: independent screenshot, screen-recording, capture-review, and nonvisual media workflows designed around keyboard and screen reader use.

AccessibleScreenCapture 2.1.0

The free edition provides an accessible Windows workflow for taking screenshots and making screen recordings without depending on mouse or drag-based interaction. It is intended to remain available as the free AccessibleScreenCapture edition.

Status: Version 2.1.0 - planned free public edition

AccessibleScreenCapture Pro 3.0.0 Beta 18

The Pro edition expands the original capture workflow with screenshot confirmation, screenshots during recordings, a persistent Review Queue, local screenshot description, customizable global shortcuts, recording review and playback, and nonvisual video editing. Beta 18 adds synchronized microphone, system or meeting audio, and video recording; human-readable Review Queue identification and filenames; improved keyboard navigation through long recordings; and a global recording shortcut that has passed testing outside the active application.

Status: Pro 3.0.0 Beta 18 - active testing

Microphone-level refinement and comprehensive in-application keyboard instructions remain active work before release.

The Pro edition is planned as a future paid product after testing is complete and Open Door Design is fully established. It is not currently for sale.

UniversalMediaController

Focus: consistent Screen Reader First and keyboard-first control of supported existing media players.

UniversalMediaController is a control framework that operates supported existing media players through one consistent, accessible interface. It is not a media player and not a website accessibility overlay.

The current foundation supports native HTML5 audio and video, accessibility-first control ordering, and multiple controller instances. Experimental Vimeo integration is the next interoperability step.

Explore UniversalMediaController

Expression Library

Focus: finding, understanding, copying, and using emoji, emoticons, kaomoji, symbols, flags, and original Open Door expressions through a Screen Reader First experience.

Expression Library is a working web application designed to make expressions understandable and usable without requiring visual browsing. It includes search suggestions, Frequently Used and Favorites areas, themed expression tables, saved preferences, theme ordering, expanded dog and horse collections, and original Open Door expressions.

The original Open Door collection has grown to 40 expressions across Dino, Dog, Horse and Equine, and Plant themes. Testing has confirmed that supported original image expressions can retain their accessible names when copied and pasted into applications such as Word and ChatGPT.

Status: Working web application; free public resource

A Windows edition may come later, but the current web application does not need to wait for it.

Accessible Media Editor

Focus: complete Screen Reader First multimedia authoring for video, audio, images, narration, text, timing, and eventual finished-media export.

Accessible Media Editor is now a distinct Windows application in active development. Current builds support native menus and file dialogs, project files, media import, project-item reordering, duration detection, preview, In and Out points, splitting, playhead navigation, save and reopen workflows, and an in-application Testing Guide.

AccessibleScreenCapture Pro is intended for capture, review, straightforward non-destructive editing, and saving. Accessible Media Editor is being developed for deeper multimedia authoring. Continuous whole-project playback, complete composition and export, narration mixing, captions and transcripts, audio-description tracks, and additional editing workflows remain under development.

Status: Active Windows development and testing

Additional Work in Active Development

ODD has more active ideas than can move at the same pace. Development shifts among these projects in focused cycles as testing, research, and priorities reveal the next useful step. A change in focus does not mean a project has been abandoned.

Accessible Document Remediator

Continues the work of making document review, structure, remediation decisions, and accessible output more usable through nonvisual workflows.

Audio Description Author

Continues development of an accessible workflow for drafting, reviewing, timing, and improving audio description and narration support.

Accessible Video Suite

The earlier browser-based media work remains an active reference and prototype source that informs newer media projects, including Accessible Media Editor, while continuing to explore Screen Reader First review, segment, preview, and export concepts.

Accessible Transcript Editor

Continues development of accessible transcript review and editing workflows designed for keyboard and screen reader use.

VoiceOfOpenDoor

Continues development as part of ODD's exploration of accessible voice, recording, and speech workflows.

Accessible Document Academy

Continues development within the educational side of ODD, extending Screen Reader First learning into accessible document concepts and practice.

Beepball Practice Caller App

Focus: randomized audio calls, stereo direction cues, selectable callers, mobile access, and repeatable beep baseball practice.

The Beepball Practice Caller has developed into a usable audio training application rather than remaining a concept. It supports accessible controls and repeatable practice for players using randomized calls and directional audio.

Status: Nearly complete and open for final testing

Flash Trainer and Accessibility Practice Tools

Focus: accessible learning systems, challenge workflows, interactive accessibility practice, and assistive technology-compatible study environments.

Flash Trainer concepts explore accessibility education through structured learning systems, challenge modes, review workflows, and interactive accessibility practice.

The goal is to create learning environments that support screen reader users, keyboard navigation, clear feedback, and usability-focused interaction patterns while helping learners build practical accessibility understanding.

The project also explores how accessibility education can become more interactive through challenge systems, review modes, exported learning records, and screen reader-compatible quiz workflows.

Accessible Interaction and Media Examples

Focus: accessibility evaluation, component usability analysis, keyboard interaction models, screen reader behavior, and accessible multimedia workflows.

Accessible Carousel Engineering Example

Open Door Design includes accessibility-focused carousel examples designed to demonstrate keyboard accessibility, screen reader interaction, focus management, accessible navigation, and instructional usability concepts.

The carousel work explores how commonly inaccessible interface patterns can be redesigned to support users who rely on screen readers and keyboard interaction.

The examples also demonstrate the importance of reducing repetitive announcements, maintaining logical reading order, and improving clarity for assistive technology users.

Accessible Media Player Design Reference

Open Door Design also evaluates accessible multimedia interaction patterns using reference examples created by other organizations, including an accessible media player developed by eComback.

The media player example demonstrates strong accessibility concepts involving keyboard operation, media controls, screen reader interaction, and simplified multimedia workflows.

The example is included as part of ongoing accessibility evaluation and usability analysis work involving accessible media experiences and assistive technology support.
